There can be a case that you are not following the correct procedure to set up the Windows Live Mail on the Mozilla Thunderbird. You can follow these steps and can set up the Windows Live Mail on the Mozilla Thunderbird:
1. Open up your Mozilla Thunderbird. In case you are opening the Thunderbird for the first time, you will get an Account Wizard on your computer screen. If you do not get the Account Wizard on your computer screen, click on the file option, select Tools option.
2. Now, click on the Account Settings and then click the Add Account button.
3. Select the Email account option and click the Next button.
5. Now, enter your name and email address and then click on the Next option.
6. Click on the POP. In the Incoming Server, enter pop3.live.com and in the Outgoing Server, enter smtp.live.com.
7. Now, click on the Next option.
8. The incoming user name and outgoing user name will be the same. Please make sure that you enter the full email address in both fields with the @domain name and click on the Next option.
9. Now, look over the verification screen that comes up and click Finish.
10. Click on the Tools option in the File menu and then click on the Account Settings.
11. On the left hand side of the Account Settings pane, select Sever Settings. Select SSL under the Security Settings and make sure that the Use secure authentication box is NOT checked and that the Port is set to 995.

12. Now, click on the OK option.
13. When you click the Get Mail button, Thunderbird will prompt you for your password. Type in the passwords and click on the OK button and get your email.
